LG Arena UK Launch

  KM900 Cube

LG are on a roll at the moment and have just launched yet another phone in the UK, the long awaited KM 900 Arena.  I was lucky enough to be invited along to get some quality hands on time with the Arena at it’s launch.  It’s not often I get to go to a swanky club in London!

It’s available to buy from this weekend on the Orange and T-Mobile networks.  The Arena is also being sold through Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u.  If you want one for free pricing looks to be in the region of £30 to £35 per month on an 18 month contract.

Videos have been available online for sometime now showing it’s much vaunted S Class user interface.  In these videos the phone always looks rather large but in reality I was impressed at just how small and neat it actually is.  I was also impressed at how responsive and intuitive the touch screen interface felt.

When it comes to playing DIVX video and Music the Arena acquits itself well with Dolby Mobile doing it’s bit to give you sound quality rivalling many of the higher end MP3 players out there.  The standard in ear buds LG supply are also surprisingly good quality for a mobile phone.

It has a 5 Mega Pixel camera with LED flash and 8 GB of onboard storage for your media.  If you need more storage the Arena can take a Micro SD card of up to 32 GB’s.

So far I’m impressed but I’ll post a full review when I have spent sometime living with the new Arena.  Meanwhile here are the highlights from the feature list:

  • Quad Band
  • HSPDA 7.2Mbps, GPRS, WEDGE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi
  • Scratch resistant tempered glass, 3” WVGA (480 x800) touch screen
  • Vibration feedback
  • Dolby Mobile
  • MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC++, WMA and WAV
  • DIVX,Xvid
  • 5 Mega Pixel Camera with LED flash, Geo-Tagging, image Stabilization,
  • Continuous Shot Mode, Timer and Colour Effects
  • Video recording (H.264, MPEG4) VGA at 30fps, D1 (720 x 480)
  • Accelerometer to sense whether the phone is in portrait or Landscape mode

Thanks for the feedback.

Firstly, I think most people appreciate that their “free” handset will actually cost them money in the form of a monthly contract and I was just trying to point out what it will cost them.

The piece was intended to convey my first impressions of the phone after a couple of hours of use. I should probably have made that clearer, although I do say

“I’ll post a full review when I have spent sometime living with the new Arena”.

This review will obviously be more in depth.

Thank you for pointing out the “some sometime” typo; this has now been corrected.
