Google Android coming to ASUS Netbooks?
by Kevin in Mobile techAccording to Bloomberg Asustek (ASUS) are developing the Google Android OS for their low cost Netbooks. If ASUS decide to go ahead with the project they’re aiming to release Android on a netbook as early as the end of 2009.
Android is a free Linux based phone operating system first released in the UK on the G1 phone on the T-Mobile Network. As Android is open source it benefits from large numbers of developers creating applications for the Android Marketplace. With the multi nationals of the Open Handset Alliance on board Android looks set play a big part in our mobile future.
Netbooks are often used for “Internet browsing on the go” so this project seems like a natural extension to the ASUS netbook range. I only hope if they release it they include an unlocked SIM slot for Mobile Broadband as this really would set the netbook free.
